We think most people can agree that trying to learn about a vehicle by staring at a brochure or scrolling through a list of specs isn’t exactly a good time, but if you’re shopping for a car, truck, or SUV, then it’s important that you learn as much as possible before heading to a dealership. You shouldn’t just shout, “Chevy dealer near me” at your phone and hope a good one comes up or trust that whatever truck looks good will work best for you. Doing some research ahead of time arms you with the knowledge you need to ensure you get the right truck with everything you’ve been looking for—that research can be tricky.

This is why we have people come to us all of the time asking about the various details and specifics of different Chevy models, including the stunning 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500. While we’re always happy to answer questions for our customers here at Southern Chevrolet, we also know how helpful it is to know as much as possible before going to a dealership. So today, we’re going to take you through some of the most common questions we’re asked about the Silverado and provide you with the answers you’ve been looking for. By the end of this, you’ll have a great idea about what the Silverado 1500 offers and perhaps a good sense of which features will work best for you.

Question #1: How Many Engine Options Does the 2024 Chevy Silverado Have?

Just a few years ago, Chevy offered about half a dozen different engines on the Silverado 1500, which made choosing the right one a bit intimidating; but they’ve simplified things nicely, and there are now four engines available to you on the 2024 Silverado 1500. This starts with one of the most remarkable standard engines in any full-size truck: a 2.7L TurboMax I-4 that delivers 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, giving you an amazing driving experience. There’s also an available 6.2L V8 engine that can provide 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, as well as a Duramax Turbo-Diesel that delivers a massive 495 lb-ft of torque. With two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive available, getting a Chevy Silverado 1500 with the power you need is easy.

Question #2: How Many Trim Levels Can I Choose From With the Silverado?

Nine different trim levels are available for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500, which can seem overwhelming, but choosing the right one is a lot easier than it might first appear. For starters, if you’re not interested in going off-road with your truck, you essentially have six different ones to consider: the starting WT, the Custom, the LT, the RST, the LTZ, and finally, the pinnacle High Country model. All six trims are excellent, and you’ll find different features and options across them as you move from one up to the next.

The other three trims to consider are all designed for different levels of off-road performance. First, you have the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss, essentially the Custom and LT trim levels but with off-road features like advanced suspensions for better performance when you leave the pavement behind. For the most impressive capability out on the trail, you want to check out the ZR2 trim, which gives you great features inside and serious off-road functionality.

Question #3: Are There Different Configuration Options Available?

Yes, you have several different options for the configuration you want, depending on the cab size you’re interested in and the bed length that works best for you. First, there’s the Regular Cab, which has only a front row of seating and is available with either a 6.5-foot bed or an 8.0-foot bed behind it. The Double Cab gives you two rows of seating for something a bit larger, though the rear isn’t incredibly spacious with the 6.5-foot bed. If you know you need more room for passengers or like to keep more stuff inside your truck; then there’s a Crew Cab with very spacious rear seating, which is available with either a 5.75-foot bed or a 6.5-foot bed. These five options make it easy to consider what will work best for you and to choose the configuration that perfectly meets your needs.

Question #4: What Kind of Towing and Payload Can the Silverado Handle?

As a legendary full-size truck, the 2024 Silverado 1500 has some of the most impressive towing and payload capabilities you’ll find anywhere. The actual amounts your truck will be able to handle depends on numerous factors, but the simplest thing to remember is maximum towing and payload based on the engine you’re interested in. Let’s quickly look at all four engines and the capacities they can handle:

  • 2.7L TurboMax I-4
    • Max Towing: 2,260 lbs
    • Max Payload: 9,500 lbs
  • 5.3L EcoTec V8
    • Max Towing: 2,140 lbs
    • Max Payload: 11,300 lbs
  • 6.2L EcoTec V8
    • Max Towing: 1,980 lbs
    • Max Payload: 13,300 lbs
  • 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I-6
    • Max Towing: 1,970 lbs
    • Max Payload: 13,300 lbs

Remember that these are maximum ratings for each of these engines, and other factors like the cab size, bed length, and drive type can all impact the real-world abilities of your pickup. Still, this gives you a good sense of just how powerful the Silverado 1500 is and what kind of performance you can get from it.

Question #5: Is the Silverado 1500 Comfortable Inside?

The days of barebones trucks that feel almost punishing to ride in are long gone, and few models illustrate this as well as the 2024 Silverado 1500. Chevy has put a lot of work into making this a truck that you’ll look forward to driving each day, and you can find incredible comfort and luxury with features like dual-zone climate control, leather-trimmed seating, and heated seats available. Just keep in mind that the trim you choose will impact these kinds of things, so consider the LTZ or High Country if comfort is a top priority for you.

Question #6: What Kinds of Tech Features Are Available?

Like comfort, technology in the Chevy Silverado has become better than ever, giving you many features and options to choose from. LT models and higher—which means six of nine available trims—come with a stunning 13.4-inch infotainment display that looks amazing and makes it incredibly easy to keep track of navigation directions or use the apps available within your truck. This big screen comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Google Built-in functionality to really let you get the most from your truck. Available options like a large driver display, Bose premium sound system, and wireless charger take your driving experience even further.

Question #7: What Advanced Features Are Included With Chevy Safety Assist?

Every 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with Chevy Safety Assist standard, which has six advanced safety features to help protect you on the road. This includes a Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Front Pedestrian Braking to warn you about a potential crash and help you avoid it. You also get a Lane Keep Assist system with a Lane Departure Warning, a Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam Auto High Beams that can switch off when oncoming traffic is detected to avoid blinding other drivers. These great features come standard, with even more available—including Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving on High Country models—to keep you safer than ever before.
