The 2024 Silverado 1500 has arrived at Southern Chevrolet, your Chevy dealer near Montgomery, LA. If you’re a truck driver, then you know that’s a big deal because nothing is better than a brand-new Chevy. But what if you’re just toying with the idea of getting a truck and you’re having a tough time deciding between the two giants, Chevy and Ford? Both the 2024 Silverado 1500 and the 2024 Ford F-150 are top-selling pickups that have legions of loyal followers.

The Chevy Silverado is a truck with deep roots; arriving on the scene in 1999, its legacy of affordability and reliability speaks for itself. It’s known for consistently pushing the boundaries and setting new standards for the truck market. While the top-selling Ford F-150 shares a similar story, the Silverado 1500’s reputation for long-lasting performance and class-exclusive features often tips the scales in its favor among truck enthusiasts and casual drivers alike.

If you’re searching for the perfect co-pilot for 2024 to tackle the traffic along Route 71 or enjoy a day of relaxation at the Montgomery Recreation Area, it’s tough to beat the Silverado 1500. However, the F-150 is a titan among trucks, so we can see its appeal. How can you decide which fits your lifestyle the best? Well, here are three ways the Chevy Silverado 1500 outperforms the Ford F-150.

Let’s Start With the Tailgates

If you haven’t looked at the market lately, you’ll be surprised to see that tailgates have come a long way. They aren’t just made for opening and closing but have been redesigned to offer additional work space as well as ease when it comes to loading and unloading cargo.

The 2024 Silverado 1500 boasts the most functional tailgate in the business, and that’s in addition to having a best-in-class cargo volume of up to 89.1 cu.ft. with its Durabed. The innovative MultiFlex Tailgate was introduced in 2021 and has since seen several updates to make it more useful than ever. The tailgate offers six different positions to assist drivers when it comes to using their truck beds.

  • Primary Gate: Opens easily with the push of a button or keyfob.
  • Primary Gate Load Stop: Ideal for hauling long items like timber or pipes, the primary gate load stop helps stop items from sliding out of the back of your truck.
  • Inner Gate: The primary gate features a secondary gate, which is designed to fold down so drivers can reach further into the truck bed.
  • Full-Width Step: The handy inner gate folds out into a step. The folding step is capable of handling a max of 375 lbs!
  • Inner Gate Load Stop: like the primary load shop, the inner gate load stop can help stop cargo from sliding out of the bed.
  • Inner Gate Work Surface: Folds open for a flat, clear work surface ideal for paperwork, measuring, or just eating lunch.

Loading up your gear for a last-minute fishing trip on the Red River has never been so easy. The MultiFlex tailgate is available across all of the 2024 Silverado 1500 trims.

How about the 2024 F-150? What does its tailgate have in store for drivers? Ford has dubbed its design the Pro Access Tailgate, but frankly, the design seems a little lacking. The Ford tailgate is reminiscent of the Ram 1500’s split-opening “barn door” design. The swinging tailgate allows drivers to access the bed when a trailer is hooked up. It also makes loading up the bed easier than with a traditional tale gate, but the design might not be for everyone. The Pro Access Tailgate features a load stop to help prevent items from sliding out, but rather than having a second fold-down gate for a step, Ford has integrated a second step into the rear bumper.

Hands-Free Driving Systems

We all know trucks are powerful and made for big jobs, but what about when it comes to more modern things, like technology? The right tech package can make towing and hauling safer and easier. It can also make your daily drive more enjoyable and help keep you connected when you’re on the job site or off the beaten path.

We have to start with hands-free driving technology. It’s one of the latest advancements taking over the automotive world, and if you’re interested in going hands-free during those long hours behind the wheel, getting the most advanced, user-friendly system is essential.

The 2024 Silverado 1500 boasts Super Cruise, which is considered the most advanced hands-free driving system you can get in its class. The tech uses a combination of cameras, GPS, and maps to navigate over 400,000 miles of roads across the US and Canada, with more miles being added all the time.

But Super Cruise from Chevy has an extra perk you won’t find anywhere else at the moment, and that’s Super Cruise with Trailering. You can equip your truck to recognize your trailer so that you can relax and let your Silverado take over for a few miles. The system keeps a safe gap between your truck and trailer and the other cars on the road, helping you out when you’re feeling fatigued. How easy is the system to use? With the press of a button, you’re good to go!

As for the 2024 F-150, it attempts to keep up by offering its advanced BlueCruise technology to let drivers go hands-free. While BlueCruise has been highly rated by Consumer Reports as a great hands-free driving system, it can’t compete with the trailering option that Super Cruise offers.

BlueCruise also doesn’t have the reach that Super Cruise does. While Super Cruise technology currently covers over 400,000 miles of roads, Ford’s BlueCruise is stalled at around 130,000 miles in what Ford calls “Blue Zones.” An interactive map helps drivers find the Blue Zones, while a dash light indicator lets you know when you’re actively traveling through one.

Infotainment and Trailering Technology

As for interior tech, both trucks have their perks, but we tend to lean in the direction of the Silverado 1500 because of its option to upgrade to a larger 13.4-inch infotainment screen, whereas the F-150 offers a standard 12-inch screen across all models.

While both trucks feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Silverado 1500 takes things a step further with a familiar face: Google Built-In. With Google Built-In, it’s easy to personalize your drive using just your voice so your hands can always remain firmly on the wheel. Whether you’re connecting with family, listening to your favorite playlists, or getting real-time navigation, Google makes everything as easy as saying, “Hey, Google.”

Each of the trucks offers extensive trailering technology to make it quicker and safer to hitch up and hit the road. But the 2024 Silverado 1500 offers an impressive eight cameras with up to 14 different views, including a 360-degree bird’s eye view, four hitch views, six driving views, and four parking views, so there are never any surprises. Drivers can also take advantage of the Silverado’s Trailering App to create custom profiles to streamline their next trailering job, get pre-departure checklists, and monitor trailer tire pressures and temperatures when they’re on the road.

The F-150 features tech like a Pro Trailer Backup Assist that helps you hitch up without the guesswork. Dynamic Hitch Assist helps keep your truck lined up while you’re trying to secure your trailer. This stuff is all great when you’re getting ready to head out, but we like the Silverado for its advanced cameras and monitoring that help take some of the stress out of managing your trailer when you’re on the road.

The Best Buy

Overall, we’re opting for the Silverado 1500 because of a few key features that help set it apart from the F-150. There’s no denying that both models are good-looking, hard-working trucks, but the Silverado 1500’s tech and design go that extra mile for Montgomery drivers.

We love all the ways the Multi-Flex tailgate can enhance loading and unloading cargo with six different functions to keep things versatile when you’re dealing with long boards or packs of camping gear. The built-in step is there if you need it. The F-150 features a 100-degree swinging door option that feels a little lackluster compared to all of the unique tailgate features of the Silverado 1500.

Then there’s the technology that ranges from hands-free driving with trailering to multiple views from up to eight available cameras. The Silverado 1500 is a driver’s best friend when you’re on the road and need an extra boost of confidence. The F-150 no doubt makes hitching up easy, but when it comes to hands-free technology, it doesn’t offer Google Built-In or an option to cruise hands-free while pulling a trailer.

Looking for the best buy? The 2024 Silverado 1500 has impressed us with its thoughtful and modern features that help it pull ahead of the pack and keep things fresh and exciting for Louisiana drivers.
