Chevy fans have much to look forward to with the 2024 model year, especially if you’re interested in a new truck or SUV. As a Chevy dealer, we here at Southern Chevrolet are sure that you expect us to be excited about any upcoming model year from Chevy—while that might be true, there are some updates and new offerings this year that have pushed us over the top in terms of our anticipation to finally take some of these models for a spin. Even changes that have us a bit saddened, like saying goodbye to the Camaro, still have us excited for what’s to come and how this will alter the Chevy lineup in the years ahead. Let’s look at some of the biggest improved and revamped models coming this year that we can’t wait to get our hands on.
The Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison
Although there’s no shortage of great Chevy vehicles coming this year that we are excited about, we can’t think of a better one to start with than the all-new Colorado ZR2 Bison. For years, the Colorado ZR2 has been one of the best midsize off-road trucks on the market, so what could Chevy do to improve it? How about making it more rugged and capable than ever by partnering with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) to create an incredible piece of machinery ready to conquer any trail?
For starters, the Colorado ZR2 Bison features boron steel skid plates and rocker protectors to protect its underside, no matter how rough the trail gets. In addition to this, segment-exclusive Multimatic front and rear Jounce Control Dampers act as bump stops to help handle serious drops and jumps while going off-road, which are combined with the Bison’s Multimatic DSSV dampers on the suspension to create a truck that can handle pretty much anything. Perhaps best of all, by extending its wheelbase, Chevy and AEV have made room for 17-inch tires wrapped in 35-inch OD Mud/Terrain tires, giving the ZR2 Bison 12.2 inches of ground clearance. This is an absolute beast that can take you anywhere you can imagine—it’s already been tested extensively on the rigorous Rubicon Trail and proven itself ready for anything.
The Chevy Silverado 1500
One of the biggest announcements for the remarkable Chevy Silverado 1500 this year is that its powerful 2.7L High-Output I-4 engine is now the first to carry the new TurboMax name. This TurboMax engine delivers 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most capable standard powertrains on the market. Along with this new name, the popular Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine is now available for the ZR2 off-road trim, creating more options for putting together the perfect truck. Other updates for 2024 include Adaptive Cruise Control becoming standard on the High Country, additional safety options for the starting trim like Front and Rear Park Assist, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard on all models.

The Chevy Silverado HD Series
For more than 20 years, the Silverado HD trucks have been trusted to handle serious work that the iconic Silverado 1500 simply isn’t up for and that’s not about to change anytime soon. For the 2024 model year, the Silverado HD trucks have been updated for improved power and performance, making them better than ever before. For example, both the standard gas engine and the available diesel engine on the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD come with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission for responsive performance that adjusts beautifully to your speed and the environment where you’re driving.
The legendary Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 engine has been improved to deliver 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque, and it’s been tuned to deliver superior overall power, including up to 25% increased performance at low speeds or when climbing uphill. Beyond raw power, the interior of most models has been updated. It now includes a 13.4-inch Infotainment display and a 12.3-inch driver information center screen, making these HD models more enjoyable to drive while transforming them into a mobile workplace or office. Trailering technology has also been improved for 2024, including Trailer support for Adaptive Cruise Control, Enhanced Transparent Trailer functionality for gooseneck towing, and even a Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert option.
The Chevy Silverado HD ZR2
This is truly a great time to be a driver interested in an off-road truck. Not to be outdone by the development of the Colorado ZR2 Bison, the Silverado HD Series is stepping up its off-road capability with the introduction of the first-ever Silverado HD ZR2 model. It might seem a bit strange to combine the enhanced power of a Silverado HD with ZR2 off-road performance, but it makes perfect sense for a wide range of situations. From folks who simply want more muscle in their off-road trucks to people in trades who need to be able to reach the most remote sites, the Silverado HD ZR2 is ready to deliver.
This model features a front grille that makes it easily recognizable as part of Chevy’s legendary ZR2 family, plus other badging and emblems. To go with this, the Silverado HD ZR2 gets a raised suspension compared to standard HD models, along with Multimatic DSSV dampers, a larger steel skid plate for the transfer case, a front aluminum skid plate, and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires on 18-inch wheels. Taking things even further, this inaugural year even includes a Silverado HD ZR2 Bison model that comes with a distinctive high-approach stamped-steel front bumper, unique stamped-steel rear bumper, and steel underbody skid plates along with unique Bison badging.
The Chevy Trax
Beyond a simple facelift or refresh, the Chevy Trax is getting a full update with an all-new model for 2024, delivering a fantastic experience designed to meet the needs of a wide range of drivers. For its all-new generation, the Trax has grown in size—not to a crazy degree, but just enough to provide greater interior space for you to enjoy. Powered by a 1.2L turbocharged engine, this updated Trax gets 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, plenty of power to make it remarkably fun on the road. Its turbo performance is particularly well suited for accelerating to merge with traffic or pass someone, giving you extra speed when you need it most.
The new Trax has a bold, powerful design that you might not expect at first from a small crossover like this, but it works beautifully. The interior has been completely updated, and starting models come with a standard 8.0-inch infotainment display. Higher trims come with an 11-inch screen and an 8.0-inch driver information center display for added functionality to make your driving experience as enjoyable as possible. Perhaps best of all, the Chevy Safety Assist suite of features comes standard on every Trax model, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, a Following Distance Indicator, and much more.
