Chevrolet is one of the most trusted names in the pickup market. With over 100 years of experience under their belts making the hardworking vehicles that those with serious demands rely on, Chevy knows a thing or two about the needs of pickup drivers. Many of these go-getters think of the Silverado when they think of a Chevy pickup, but while the Silverado series—from the light-duty 1500 to the heavy-duty 3500 and up—are certainly admirable machines, sometimes they’re just too much truck for a certain customer. When that’s the case, we love to recommend the Chevy Colorado.

As a dedicated used Chevy dealership, we here at Southern Chevrolet have sold scores of used Colorados over the years. It’s beloved by those who have modest towing and hauling needs and want an easy-to-drive midsize truck. Getting the right pickup is vital to your daily tasks—and potentially even your livelihood—so we want to ensure you understand exactly what the Colorado offers so you can decide if it’s the right pickup for you.

We’re specifically looking at the 2020 Colorado today because, as a still relatively new model, it delivers technological and safety features that are just about on par with the current model year. However, as a pre-owned model, you can secure a 2020 Colorado at an amazing price. When you’re inspecting such a model during your browsing phase, we advise you to consider asking yourself these particular questions…

Will You Be Commuting With Your Truck?

Are you looking to use your pickup as an everyday commuter vehicle? When you need the capabilities of a pickup but the fuel economy of a car to get you through long drives without too many fuel stops, the Colorado is a great option. A 2WD model equipped with the available diesel engine can see 23 MPG combined, for 20 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. Your eyes did not deceive you: the 2020 Colorado can see up to 30 MPG on the highway; this makes it an excellent pickup for anyone who does a lot of freeway driving.

Are You Looking for Nimble Handling?

One thing customers really like about the Colorado is its midsize dimensions, which make it really easy to handle. While highly capable, full-size pickups can sometimes be tricky to park in certain environments, and likewise for squeezing in and out of congested streets.

If you want to feel really in command of your vehicle and don’t want to require a spotter every time you park, you’ll seriously appreciate the midsize dimensions of the Colorado. We particularly recommend this truck for drivers who spend a lot of time in the bustling streets of downtown Alexandria or who need to visit nearby Baton Rouge on a regular basis and battle for parking there.

How Many Passengers Do You Expect to Have?

The 2020 Colorado has two cab options: extended and crew. So, if you need just a little extra room behind the front row for occasional rear-seat passengers, get the extended cab. If you regularly transport rear seat passengers, get the crew cab so they can enjoy spacious leg room. The 2020 Colorado does not offer a traditional cab, so if you are looking for a truck with seating just in the front row, that won’t be the Colorado.

What Demands Do You Have for Your Cargo Bed?

If you know what items you’ll need to transport on a regular basis, we recommend measuring your frequent load to see if the Colorado’s bed can contain them. There are two bed lengths for the 2020 Colorado: five feet, two inches, and six feet, two inches. For reference, the 2020 Silverado has beds that range from five feet, eight inches, to eight feet even. For some drivers, that’s more bed length than usually needed, and the Colorado is a perfect fit.

How Much Do You Think You’ll Be Trailering?

The Chevy Colorado is a terrific option for those with modest towing and trailering needs. The 2020 model can tow up to 7,700 lbs, so it’s great for trailering a small camper, boat, or equipment. If you know you don’t have heavy-duty trailering needs but might need to occasionally trailer something small, the Colorado could be just right for your needs.

Do You Want Diverse Engine Options?

One thing we love to tell our drivers about the Colorado is that it’s a midsize pickup with full-size engine options. The 2020 model came out with three engines: a standard four-cylinder, an optional spirited V6, and a powerful and fuel-efficient diesel engine.

We recommend the diesel engine for those looking for the best fuel economy rating. However, if you know which engine you’re after, let our sales team know; we keep a diverse stock of used Colorados and could have the exact configuration you’re looking for.

How Great Is Your Need for Convenience Features?

This is the biggest reason why we like to show off the 2020 model. This iteration of the Colorado has a great offering of standard infotainment features that can make the life of a busy pickup driver just a little easier. For starters, you’ll get a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, so you can connect your devices—like your laptop or smartphone—to your vehicle’s Wi-Fi; that means no driving around to find a coffee shop with free internet when that last-minute work request comes in and you’re away from home.

You’ll also get smartphone compatibility for Apple and Android products, as well as Bluetooth connectivity that can connect to two devices simultaneously, so you or your co-pilot can control the music and take hands-free calls.

Getting a Great Deal on a Reliable Midsize Pickup

The 2020 Chevy Colorado offers an impressive array of features and capabilities for its seriously modest price point. We have tons of used Colorados arriving regularly, and we strive to offer competitive pricing on this versatile and easy-to-drive model.

Test Drive the Chevy Colorado at Southern Chevrolet

Having the right pickup truck can make a world of difference in your day-to-day activities. If you’re a builder, a contractor, a farmer, or work in any field where transporting large items is regularly required, you simply need a good pickup.

Drivers often come to us and ask for advice on whether they should get a Silverado or a Colorado. When customers look at the Silverado and say, “That’s too much truck for me,” we gladly show them the Colorado. Its midsize dimensions make it a great vehicle for those who need to manage busy city streets and crammed parking lots. Meanwhile, the available diesel engine gives impressive fuel economy for a pickup, which is why we also recommend it to those looking for a commuter vehicle.

Packed with standard infotainment features and ready for rear-seat passengers in both its cab configurations, the 2020 Colorado is a solid truck for those drivers who spend a decent amount of their day in their vehicle. We’re experts on this great midsize Chevy and would be happy to show you the different generations and configurations. If you need modest towing abilities, easy-to-maneuver dimensions, and good fuel economy, the Colorado might be perfect for you.
