The All-New 2025 Chevy Equinox Upon first look, it is clear that the 2025 Equinox is not the same SUV as the one put on the street for 2024. The 2025 model embraces a more athletic and bolder exterior, using sharper lines and several unique and bold grille options. Even the color options have been changed up with a handful of two-tone finishes for those who like a bit more excitement from their vehicles. Inside, there are quite a few aesthetic changes, but that is partially due to the new trim options available for the first time on the Equinox. The 2024 Trax isn’t a rehash of what came before but rather a chance for Chevy to usher this SUV into something that can better compete with the rival subcompacts. Are you ready to get started? more A New and More Efficient Powertrain The first departure between the 2024 Trax and its predecessors is a new powertrain. Some aspects have remained the same, such as the standard 6-speed automatic transmission, but not much else has stayed the same other than fuel economy ratings for freeway travel, but we’ll be getting to that. It’s worth mentioning the 2024 Trax doesn’t have an AWD option, which may be upsetting news to some, but it does have fuel efficiency that’s worth writing home about. The 2024 Trax earns EPA-estimated ratings of 28 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway, for a combined total of 30 MPG. The new turbocharged engine allows for better mileage than before. More Cargo Space is a Welcomed Change Cargo space is a significant change for the 2024 Trax – and a welcomed one. Cargo space was never specifically an issue for Trax owners, but with the 2024 model, you won’t encounter any problems accommodating cargo for up to five people. Let’s compare the last Trax with the latest model to understand better what kind of upgrade you're looking at. The 2022 Trax would be the last in a long line of consecutive model years dating back to 2015, as Chevy forwent a 2023 model to press restart on the Trax, especially for public expectations. Let’s talk about the cargo capacities. The last Trax model – the 2022 Trax – has cargo space ranging from 18.7 cu.ft. At the minimum – cargo space remains when the back seats are up. The 2024 Trax increases this cargo room by 37%, going from 18.7 cu.ft. to 25.6 cu.ft. In practice, this is a sturdy increase and results in quite a plentiful cargo area. Driving by yourself to transport cargo is accessible in the 2024 Trax, especially with the bonus of a vast increase in cargo space by folding down the rear passenger seats. In the 2022 version of the Trax, folding down the back row meant you’d get 48.4 cu.ft., a substantial jump over the cargo space with those seats up. However, the 2024 model takes things one step further by pushing the maximum cargo space of the Trax to 54.1 cu.ft., which is 111% more space than what you get if you have the backseats up. This cavern of a cargo area is more than you need for basic transportation of groceries, even if you need to shop for Thanksgiving dinner. For not-so-everyday occasions, the 2024 Trax provides the perfect amount of cargo space for transportation of cargo of many kinds, from television sets during that Black Friday sale to large 2x4s to build that deck. Impactful Tech Upgrades This Year The powertrain and cargo space aren’t the only upgrades between the new 2024 Trax and its predecessor. Tech has also seen a rather impactful upgrade by introducing two new infotainment centers, which are upgraded over what’s included with the last-generation models. Before the 2024 Trax, models come with a 7-inch infotainment center. There’s nothing wrong with the infotainment centers in the older Trax models, it’s simply that design sensibilities have changed, and what people have come to expect are larger and more intuitive computer systems in their cars. However, even these older 7-inch infotainment centers cover the amenities most people want, including Bluetooth wireless connectivity for audio playback, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and the features everyone with a cellphone should use: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. So, how does the 2024 Trax improve upon such a robust solution? The answer: larger screens, more features, and the most up-to-date software. Inside the base 2024 Chevy Trax is an 8-inch infotainment center, positioned in a stylish way that slightly points the screen more in your direction while making it easier to see and interact with, thanks to the slant also protruding from the right side of your instrument console. Also benefiting from this sleek design are the air vents pointing towards you, making A/C or heat feel more impactful when in use. If not for the immaculate design, we’d still believe the infotainment center in the 2024 Trax is a stark upgrade over what came before. However, it’s hard not to admire the sheer brilliance of the display 11-inch touchscreen that comes standard on higher-end trims like the LT, 2RS, and Activ. In addition to the larger screen size, the 11-inch screen appears like an extension of the Driver Information Center. Instead of providing analog gauges, it’s upgraded to another 8-inch screen that facilitates all the necessary info like speed, fuel, and mileage. Are there any other upgrades besides the ones we mentioned? You bet! The Trax features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the first time. These two features come standard with the 8-inch infotainment center and the 11-inch variant. However, if you want a truly wireless experience, you should opt for the LT, 2RS, or Activ trims. Few, however, can beat the Chevy Equinox––a longtime favorite of solo commuters and families alike. In fact, since it first hit the market in 2004, the Equinox has been a consistent bestseller for Chevy thanks to its gorgeous looks, spacious interior, innovative technology, and smooth handling. Most notable, though, is that even though both crossovers offer about the same cargo volume, along with the rear interior being a bit classier in the Equinox, the starting price of the Equinox is lower than the Escape’s. Both the Equinox and the Escape have some outstanding tech, but there’s a reason the Equinox ends up a step above the others. But we’ll get to that shortly. The Equinox and the Escape both come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which let you sync your device directly to the touch screen.
